General Information
Because we are a volunteer theatre and focused on education both on topics important to us and on the inner workings of theatre mechanics, we encourage all of our members to try everything within the program at least once. This is not only to teach you about our program, but also so that everyone appreciates the amount of work that goes into any role within the theatre; where each section of the program needs extra hands or thinkers. No role is more important than any other, whether that be actors with smaller parts, tech crew, or otherwise. We all work together for the show to go on.
We recruit new members show by show based on auditions, whether that be for actors or tech positions.

Auditions FAQ
-
Anyone with any experience level can audition, given that they are over 14 years old.
-
No. We do not currently have a children’s program.
-
No. Just as we believe that our shows should be accessible to the community, we believe that theatre should be accessible to prospective actors and crew.
-
No. We provide a pre-selected scene for a cold read.
-
Be prepared to fill out an audition form with your information, and any scheduling conflicts/ your weekly availability. Most importantly, come as you are.
-
Please include this on your audition form when you fill out your information! We’ve worked with many actors, and some of our best talent started with stage fright issues. Some still do not cold read well. We recognize that these difficulties may not effect a final performance.

Organic is referencing the type of acting that Rebel Alliance Theatre does. Organic acting is a type of method acting, where you choose your space, motions, and cadence based on how you feel your character would react to that situation. We do not do blocking or tell you how to play a part. You are not Sally playing Horatio; rather, you are Horatio trying to talk to his friend Hamlet about the spectre of his dead father.
Micro-theatre refers to the size of our audience. We believe that our shows should stay small in order to maintain an intimate, connected feeling. The actors come very close to the audience, and in some situations interact with them. We are also on the same level as our audience— no raised stages.
-
Yes. This allows us to meet you, get to know you and your interests a little bit, and auditions are the best place for us to do this. You’re here for the actors as much as you are here to learn lights, sound, stage mechanics, etc. This exposes you to the rest of the crew who are involved, as well.
-
We have rehearsals three nights a week. A rehearsal schedule will be provided.
-
No. Rebel Alliance Theatre is strictly volunteer owned and run.

What are the expectations if I'm involved?
Please read these carefully!Any breach of these expectations will result in your role(s) being recast and we will not invite you back.-
Attend all rehearsals for which you are scheduled, on time and ready to work.
Be “off-book” when you are scheduled to be. This is so that we can work more on acting and continuity than lines.
Attend all notes sessions in their entirety and observe protocol for discussion during “notes”. This includes raising your hand, waiting your turn to speak, taking a note from a director with curiosity and not arguing, and never ever giving other actors notes.
If you will be late or need to suddenly miss a rehearsal, please text the stage manager as soon as possible.
We realize that life happens, and do allow two missed rehearsals for sudden things that come up for you. But if you miss three, we will recast your parts. This is a logistics policy. We need to be able to proceed as a company regardless of life events that may affect individual participation. If you are ill for a prolonged period, your part(s) will be recast but you may still be able to participate in other ways once you are well. All such situations will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Creative Board.
-
Show up for and perform in all currently scheduled performances
-
Come to rehearsal and performances sober. Period.
The rules we have are to keep you and others safe in our spaces. Behave.
Engage with curiosity in uncomfortable subjects and learning situations.*
While on the premises, be respectful of yourself, others, and our shared physical spaces and materials.
Respect the work we do here. Refrain from posting about it on your personal social media. (This seems strict, but most shows require royalties to share! Breaking license rules is very serious and costly. If you’d like to share about the work we are doing, please only share what Rebel has shared on the Facebook.)
Respect the work of other community theatre companies. We are not here to compete; do not trash talk here or in public.
*PLEASE NOTE: If you are likely to be triggered to difficult conversations to the point that you cannot participate, please do not audition for the current show. Triggering subjects are usually disclosed at auditions, and you know your limits best.
-
If something gets ruined while you are using it, such as a costume or a prop, please note that you will be expected to pay for it.
