Taming of the Shrew
By William Shakespeare
This series of performances of William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” is produced by Rebel Alliance Theatre (RAT).
THE LANGUAGE AND HISTORY
This is modern English. Many of the words are the same, some words have different meanings now compared to then.
Don’t let the unique flow and layout of Shakespeare trick you. If something sounded dirty, it probably was! ; )
Keep in mind that when Shakespeare was alive, it was expressly forbidden by British law to have an anatomically female person on stage.
PHOTOGRAPHING / RECORDING POLICY
The videotaping or making of electronic or other audio and/or visual recordings of this production and distributing recordings or streams in any medium, including the internet, is strictly prohibited. While this play is within the Public Domain, we ask that you refrain from taking pictures or video during the performance. We welcome photos, but ask that they be taken AFTER the performance (not before or during intermission).
TLDR
Please do not videotape, record, or photograph the show!
You may ask for photos after curtain call.
SHOW RUN TIME AND SEATING
The show runs nearly 2.5 hours long and will have a 15 minute intermission.
We are a micro theatre, meaning small and intimate. Our seats place you IN the play space.
Please do not move your seat forward or back. Be aware that, depending on where you sit, actors can and will be behind you at any given time.
Our chairs were donated by First Congregational Church of Oshkosh. While they are not the most comfortable chairs, it can be surprising how expensive good chairs are. It is a goal of RAT to acquire and provide comfortable chairs in the future.
ACCESSIBILITY AND SPECIAL SEATING NEEDS
The venue and facilities are wheelchair accessible.
Special seating considerations can be provided if needed and alerted to us ahead of time.
FOOD AND DRINK
Water/drinking fountains/bubblers are available on site.
Concessions (snacks and buyable water or beverages) are not provided/available.
We invite you to bring quiet snacks and water or other beverages (no alcohol permitted) to enjoy during the show.
While we do not have concessions to sell, Kwik Trip is just across the parking lot!

Rebel Alliance Theatre has produced “The Taming of the Shrew” two times previously.
Once in the 90s at our Main Street location. The 2nd in the 2010s in Omro.
Christophero Sly is a poor man. When a wealthy, privileged lord stumbles upon this poor fellow, drunk and unconscious in the street, the lord hatches a plan. Wouldn’t it be funny if we kidnapped this guy, dressed him in “rich people” clothes, and acted like he is a lord and was just in a coma, dreaming that he was a poor schmuck. The lord then orders a theatre troupe to perform a play for Sly. And that is where the Taming begins.
Kate, a woman that talks back to the men around her, is seen as a shrew; unmanageable, too rough, and not ‘wife’ material. Meanwhile, her sister, Bianca, is viewed as the perfect woman; quiet, beautiful, obedient. Gremio and Hortensio want to wed Bianca, but there’s a roadblock in the way. Baptista, the sisters’ father, won’t let Bianca get married until Kate is! I won’t give the rest away, you’ll just have to watch the story unfold for yourself!
