Love To Learn Education Program Summer Classes

The Love to Learn Education Program is Free Range Education for Growing People. No Tests.  No Grades.  Just Love to Learn.

Classes are offered at $10.00 or less per session and class sizes are limited. Session lengths and meeting times vary.  Registration is required, and forms are available at the theatre 6-9PM Monday -Thursday, at our website (www.rebelalliancetheatre.org), at our booth at Omro Friday Night Markets, and by asking a Rebel.

Summer 2010 Class offerings:

The Percy Jackson Book Club: In this class lead by Rebel Alliance Second-Year Program Actor James Wilmes, 6th-8th graders will focus on Greek Mythology and delve into the world created by Rick Riordan as they read and explore his book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

Ages 12-14 (or grades 6-8)   Class size is limited to 10.  Meets Tuesday and Wednesday from 1-2 PM for three weeks June 21-July 29.   Course Fee:  $100.00   Plus 5.00 for a book if you don’t have your own copy.Register by June 18.

Off – Stage Shakespeare As You Like It :  Read and study Shakespeare’s delightful comedy with a small group of  fellow knowledge seekers lead by Rebel’s own Shakespeare Ladies– Kari Kromm and Tahnee Guenther. Learn about Shakespeare’s language and Renaissance England and meet the cast and crew of the Summer Shakespeare production in rehearsal.  Enjoy an Elizabethan sampler feast, try your hand at imagining costumes, sets, and music for the play. Class culminates in a pair of tickets for you and a guest to see As You Like It at Rebel Alliance. 

ALL AGES over 14 welcome!  Class size is limited to 10.  Meets Monday through Thursday  9:00-11:00 AM for three weeks July 12-15, 19-22 and 26-29.  Course Fee:  $120.00.  Register by July 8

Art-Full Stories With Kelsey Lapin: A theme-based language and arts class for children who will be in grades 2 through 5 in the fall of 2010. Lead by UW Oshkosh Art-Education student Kelsey Lapin. The class will explore a new book and theme each week and give students the opportunities to connect reading with art and to make  connections on their own outside of class. Students will read and explore books and then create associated hands–on art projects that are connected to the theme of the week. Class time includes unstructured “Free Art” time and children will be encouraged to bring in their own favorite books to share from time to time. The class will culminate in an exhibition that will allow students to share  the books that they have read and the art they have made with parents families, and  the Rebel Alliance Theatre Community.

Ages 7-11 (or grades 2-5)  Class size is limited to 20. Meets Mon., Wed., and Thurs.1-3PM for 8 weeks, June 21– August 12.   Course Fee: $175.00.  Art supplies included in course fee.  Register by June 10.

Stage Combat Basics: Students will learn the basics of stage combat both hand to hand and rapier work. Class will culminate in the creation and performance of a  stage combat skit. Accomplished Stage Combat instructor Justin Fleck (Rebel Alliance Theatre Fight Director) will work with students, both one and one and in a group, to show them the basic skills which they will practice both during class on on their own outside of class so that so they will be ready by the end to be able to plan out and perform their own stage combat skit in the future both well and safely.  Two six-week classes are offered. Each class is limited to 10 students:

Junior Stage Combat  (for ages 12-15)  Meets Mondays  4-6 PM for 5 weeks  June 21-July 26
Stage Combat (for ages 16 and older)    Tuesdays    4-6 PM     for   5 weeks  June 22-July 27�
Course Fee $120.00.  Register by June 18.

A Comedy by William Shakespeare

A dark children’s story by Marty and Kalin Duhatschek.

The Taming of the Shrew

Rebel Alliance Theatre, located in Omro (just ten minutes from Oshkosh) is a non-profit, volunteer-based, educational community theatre that has been serving the Fox Valley for over 15 years. We have a resident company of trained theatre professionals and produce six full-length productions every year. We also welcome emerging artists and community members to participate in our programming and offer numerous opportunities for theatre arts education from on-going acting and design workshops to participation in our productions.

We never charge production participants a fee to be part of our shows and we provide all scripts, costumes, and special effects make-up. For health reasons, community actors are expected to provide their own basic make-up kit, which we will help you to put together economically.

All roles are currently open. Actors should be aware that we will cast Core members as teaching artists in major roles, but we will consider all actors for all roles. Rebel Alliance is process and program rather than product oriented: those actors expressing an interest in apprenticeship and understudying will be given preference during our casting process.

DO NOT be afraid of Shakespeare—we have a very unique approach to his work and promise you that you will NOT have any trouble understanding his language or having FUN if you participate fully in this production as an actor, designer, or technician. The play will be directed by Rebel Alliance Theatre’s Artistic and Education Director, Kelley Duhatschek.

The show goes into rehearsal after the holidays (early January) and performs February 18, 19, 20 and 25, 26, 27 (2010) in Omro. We rehearse Monday through Thursday evenings 6-9 in Omro (car pooling is possible) and will make every attempt to craft a rehearsal schedule that will consider your work and outside activity schedules.

You do not have to prepare a monologue. Just wear something comfortable and make sure that you know the dates and times of your conflicting activities.

Get one free admission to Rebel Alliance Theatre’s opening night performance of Live Nativity (December 3)  with the donation of a nonperishable food item for the Omro Food Pantry.

In conjunction with Live Nativity, the volunteers of Rebel Alliance Theatre are offering a rich assortment of community activities and holiday events for all ages. Children can join in the fun by entering Rebel Alliance Theatre’s Creative Christmas Coloring Contest. Contestants are invited to draw and color pictures that represent for them the true meaning of Christmas, and to send the drawings to Rebel Alliance Theatre at 205 Adams St, Omro WI 54963 by the 5th of December. The contest is open to children ages 3 to 12 years old. There will be 3 winners chosen, and the winners will be announced in the Omro Herald. All the children’s creations will be displayed at the Rebel Alliance Theatre performance space during the run of the show. Entry forms for The Creative Christmas Coloring Contest may be obtained at the Omro Public Library (405 E Huron St) or at Educare (1950 Venture Drive, Oshkosh). The Artists of the Hearth Bake Sale will be held during the second week of Live Nativity performances (Dec 10, 11, and 12).  Rebel Alliance Theatre invites the bakers in our community to donate the fruits of their artistry to the Bake Sale, the proceeds of which will benefit Rebel’s ongoing educational programs.   Bakers may drop off their donations at the Omro Wedding Chapel, 205 Adams St in Omro, on Dec 7th and 8th from 6:30 to 7 pm, and between 5:30 and 7 pm on Dec 10,11, and 12.   Donors of baked goods should price their own items as they feel appropriate.  We request that the name of the baker accompany each donated item.  Any unsold items will be donated to the Omro Food Pantry.

A Christmas Disaster in 3 Acts

There’s no place like home for the holidays.  Fancy Flannigan fervently believes this adage, but her family seems determined to undermine her quest for the perfect holiday season at every turn.  Undaunted, Fancy takes on an even greater challenge to her Christmas spirit when she volunteers to organize a Live Nativity at the local Catholic church.  The hilarious series of misadventures that follow will leave our audiences rolling with laughter and smiling in recognition at the little bit of the Flannigans in all of us. 

Live Nativity will be presented Dec 3, 4, 5 and 10, 11, 12, and 17, 18, 19.  All shows begin at 7 pm (doors open at 6:30).  Live Nativity will be performed at the Omro Wedding Chapel, 205 Adams St, Omro, Wisconsin.
